“Foam Cell” refers to a microcellular foam insert that helps significantly reduce cavitation, which together with excessive aeration is one of the most common causes of shock absorber performance loss and failure.
When a shock absorber is subjected to heavy loads, the oil and gas inside can begin to mix, creating bubbles and reducing the effective viscosity of the oil. When aerated oil passes through the valving, it provides less resistance, preventing the shock absorber from operating correctly.
The Foam Cell insert contains microscopic gas-filled cells and occupies the space inside the shock absorber that would normally be filled with air or nitrogen. This helps prevent bubble formation, allowing the shock absorber to maintain consistent performance and providing excellent resistance to damping fade during prolonged and demanding suspension operation.
